Windsurfing: Levington Wind Direction: nw Wind Stength: 20/28 Surf / Sea State: river chop Air Temperature: 16 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: cloudy Max Speed: 31.52 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 16.72 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
With the strong NW wind forecast today there were not many options Alton
Water :( or Levington so as I am not a great lover of Alton it had to be
Levington on the River Orwell and you needed to get away from Felixstowe as
it is carnival day and you don’t want to see majorettes and middle age
belly dancers – not a pretty sight! So I arrived at the Marina at 10ish
and there didn’t seem that much wind so rigged my X-15 7m (my favourite
sail at the moment) and launched my 133lt board, sailing out of the marina
entrance and down the river a little way. I had a long spell sailing just
short of the bay and staying upwind was easy with the help of the tide, you
could head up across the river and bear off on the far side for the best
speeds but the water wasn’t playing ball being a bit on the bumpy side. I
then moved farther into the bay and managed my best run ever at Levington
of 31.52 kts., this might be a spot record – I was on for a good ave. but
the wind died on me :( It was amazing now broad I was sailing to break
30kts and the water was far from flat! I waited in the bay for awhile but
the wind was now light and up and down so I beat back to the van and packed
up. So even if it was cloudy and cool it was still a fun session and my new
North boom was ace :) and I managed to miss the carnival :)
